Phoenix Interactive GmbH

(Redirected from Phoenix Interactive)

Phoenix Interactive GmbH (PI) is the German company that began production of Warlord CCG in January 2008 after AEG made it clear that they would cease production due to stagnant sales. PI is owned and operated by Arne Reuter, who is a longtime Warlord player and the most successful Warlord event organizer in the world. The company has existed since 2004 as a marketing and internet strategy group. Warlord CCG is PI’s first gaming enterprise. Their first product, Warlord 4th Edition, went on sale on July 31, 2008, thus marking the official “rebirth” of Warlord CCG.

Phoenix Interactive has made some big changes to the property and how it is sold. They immediately began cleaning up loopholes, timing issues, and other dilemmas with the rules. They also began the process of choosing a card pool for a reset environment (which was long overdue in many players’ opinions). In order to fund the game’s initial print run, PI created the Ordo Phoenicis Ascendentis – a sort of stock holder system. Additionally, they have allowed people to pre-order and order merchandise through the official store: Warcraft-Shop.de. They have removed the element of collectability from the game by eliminating randomness in card distribution and instead focus upon “customizability.” They have eliminated boosters – all cards are now available in starter decks only (which the exception of promo cards).

[edit] Initial Press Release

The following press release was announced on WarlordCCG.com and WarlordCCG.de in addition to other media on January 31, 2008:

AEG reaches long term licensing deal with PHOENIX Interactive GmbH to continue to publish the Warlord CCG
Ontario, California January 31
AEG is pleased to announce a long term licensing deal with PHOENIX Interactive GmbH to publish and support the Warlord CCG. The team at PHOENIX Interactive GmbH acted quickly after realizing that there might be room for a deal, and AEG was excited to be able to work with Arne Reuter and his team again.
PHOENIX Interactive GmbH president Arne Reuter was in large part responsible for the surge of player interest in Warlord in Europe over the years. He plays host to the largest Warlord event each year, KoHiT, which draws hundreds of players from around the world.
"Arne has put together a good team and good plan for moving forward with Warlord," said Brent Keith, Lead Game Designer for AEG. "Arne has already proven to have a very deep love for the product and property as well as the tools to build a strong, well supported customer base. We at AEG believe there is no better home for the game."
The official transfer of data and information will happen during February of this year. From now until end of June AEG will continue to send out support and event kits, and will work closely with PHOENIX Interactive GmbH to give them all the tools they need for a successful re-launch of the Warlord game.
Arne Reuter, owner of PHOENIX Interactive GmbH, noted "John Zinser and I have been friends for a long time. We have been discussing the possibility of this since Essen of last year, but just recently were we all able to put the pieces together. We are very excited about the possibilities and look forward to adding to an already great legacy of the game."
John Zinser, President of AEG, added "This deal represents more than just a good business for AEG. It is also an opportunity for me, as a fan of Warlord, to enjoy the game as a player and not a publisher. This may not sound like much, but publishing your favorite game and playing your favorite game are very different things. I look forward to sitting on the other side of the table, dice in hand, just for fun."
